About Me

I'm Rittu Ronald - a Mechatronics & Automation Engineering student at VIT Chennai, building systems that move with purpose and predict failure before it happens.

From the propulsion labs of ISRO to the factory floors of Ashok Leyland and Rane Madras, to the research halls of IIT Madras - I've worked across robotics, industrial automation, and predictive maintenance, contributed to Mars rover development, and filed a patent. All before finishing my degree.

I don't just study engineering. I ship it.

HumanoidXVITCC
Team MOVIS
May 11, 2026 - June 10, 2026 Cab Panel Press Shop (CPPS)

Predictive maintenance looks like a maintenance problem until you realize it's really a data problem. Ashok Leyland taught me how to turn machine signals into decisions before failures become downtime.

Ashok Leyland Node

Ashok Leyland

Project Intern | Cab Panel Press Shop

Ashok Leyland Logo Industry 4.0 Predictive Maintenance & Quality Inspection

Worked at Ashok Leyland's Cab Panel Press Shop (CPPS), where I developed Industry 4.0-based solutions focused on predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, and automated quality inspection. Designed frameworks for monitoring servo motors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, cooling circuits, and automotive body panel quality using sensor analytics, machine vision, and data-driven maintenance strategies to support Zero Downtime and Zero Defect Manufacturing initiatives.

  • Predictive Maintenance: Designed vibration analysis and motor current signature analysis (MCSA) models to monitor servo motors and gearboxes.
  • Condition Monitoring: Developed sensor telemetry frameworks for tracking hydraulic press clutch wear, cooling scaling, and hydraulic oil health.
  • Quality Inspection: Proposed inline 3D machine vision and AI anomaly detection systems to automate automotive body panel QC checks.

IIT Madras

Research Intern

IIT Madras Logo Inductive Wireless Power Transfer Lab

Worked at one of India's most respected research institutions on a problem that sits at the cutting edge of EV technology - designing and simulating wireless power transfer coils for electric vehicle charging, where the goal is to move energy without a single wire touching.

  • Coil Design: Designed and 3D modelled 3 distinct WPT coil structures - single layer, double layer, and triple layer - each with unique electromagnetic tradeoffs.
  • ANSYS Simulation: Ran eddy current analysis at 85kHz on all structures in ANSYS Electronics Desktop, extracting self-inductance and mutual-inductance matrices.
  • EMI Shielding: Investigated passive, active, and hybrid aluminum + ferrite shielding strategies to contain electromagnetic field leakage within ICNIRP safety limits.

May 19, 2025 - July 19, 2025 Chennai, India

Coil design looks like a geometry problem until the electromagnetic fields start leaking. Then it becomes a safety problem. IIT Madras taught me to see both at once.

05 Aug 2024 - 21 Nov 2024 Manufacturing Engineering Dept.

Most projects start with a blank page. Rane started with a broken machine, missing documentation, and a deadline. That gap between theory and shop floor is where the real engineering lives.

Rane Node

Rane (Madras) Limited

Project Intern

Rane Madras Logo FEA Stress Rig & Deflection Contours

Worked with Rane Madras Limited on a precision manufacturing problem - diagnosing and upgrading an automated steering rack bend correction machine that had drifted out of reliable operation, while simultaneously designing what a smarter, next-generation version of it could look like.

  • Force Analysis: Derived beam-deflection formulas for steel racks and validated corrective force calculations against ANSYS static structural simulation across five deflection cases.
  • Perception Redesign: Designed three sensing alternatives to replace the failing LVDT lever setup - LASER triangulation, a Computer Vision / Simulink pipeline, and a halo-based 4-LVDT array.
  • Machine Overhaul: Identified root causes of measurement failure, designed a solenoid drop-type LVDT positioning system, and proposed an IoT-SCADA framework for remote monitoring and digitalization.

ISRO Propulsion Complex

In-Plant Trainee

ISRO Traineeship Engine Details Liquid Propulsion Vikas Engine Assembly Details

Trained at the engine room of Indian spaceflight - where rocket propulsion systems are assembled, tested and cleared before powering India's launch vehicles into orbit.

  • Propulsion Assembly: Studied assembly of Vikas, Cryo & Semi-Cryo engines powering PSLV and GSLV missions.
  • Controls & Instrumentation: Analyzed PLC-automated test facilities monitoring pressures, temperatures, and propellant flows.
  • Aerospace Fabrication: Observed CNC machining, orbital TIG welding, and precision aerospace manufacturing techniques.

14 June 2024 - 28 June 2024 Mahendragiri, India

Industrial mechatronics teaches you how machines work. ISRO taught me what happens when they can't afford to fail.

HumanoidXVITCC Node

HumanoidX VITCC

Programming Lead

HumanoidXVITCC Robot Systems ROS2 Implementations & Legged Mobile Robotics

Leading the programming division of VIT Chennai's humanoid robotics club - writing code, organizing events, and making sure the next generation of roboticists at VIT actually know what they're doing.

  • Working with Software: Driving ROS2 integration across humanoid robotics projects, bridging hardware control with intelligent software behaviour.
  • Events Organized: Core organizer behind two flagship club events - the 2-day ROS2 Workshop and Synthetix, a robotics-focused technical event.
  • Mentorship: Actively guiding juniors through their robotics projects - from concept to working prototype.

Team MOVIS

Mechatronics Engineer

Team MOVIS Rover Systems Space Exploration Rover & Mars Drone Systems

Part of VIT Chennai's elite space technology team - building rovers, combat bots, and competing on stages that go from Delhi to NASA. MOVIS doesn't just participate in competitions. It shows up, takes hits, repairs at midnight, and comes back stronger.

  • NASA HERC 2024-25: Contributed to the ideation round of NASA's Human Exploration Rover Challenge - developing rover concepts evaluated against NASA's engineering standards.
  • Technoxian 2024 - Delhi: Built and competed with a combat robot at one of India's biggest international robotics competitions - ranked top 15 globally on a minimal budget.
  • Ideation Rounds: Selected for ideation stages at ISRO IROC and Gujarat Techfest - pushing rover and robotics concepts from whiteboard to competition floor.
